I remember asking myself the same question back in 2000. It was my first accounting position in a plumbing company and the office manager said she was about to show me how to enter bills in QuickBooks. My first thought was, “What is QuickBooks?”
In short QuickBooks is an accounting software owned by an American company called Intuit. This accounting system is a great introductory system for small businesses. It will track your revenue and expenses and keep track of the day-to-day transactions. It is so easy to learn that you can learn the basics and start using it in one day. You can learn how to invoice your clients, enter the bills you owe, enter your credit card expenses, and how to pull reports. Back in 2000, I learned how to do all that in one day. But in no way did it make me an expert by using it in a day.
The go to accounting software
QuickBooks has proven to be the software that small businesses go to because it is easy to get started. It is also an affordable accounting system compared to other advanced and complex systems. For many business owners, it has become a beneficial tool in running their finances. It can handle all the aspects of accounting. It’s functionality include payroll, fixed asset management, inventory management, and much more.
Intuit is constantly making it better and easier to use by the business owner. It is also very accessible. You can use it on a Mac, PC, and mobile.
QuickBooks Products
Intuit has developed desktop products and online products to meet various types of business needs.
For QuickBooks Desktop there are

For QuickBooks Online there are

With all these options it can be intimidating to learn QuickBooks. But Intuit provides what the different versions have to offer. The product you choose to learn depends on the type of business you have and features you need. For desktop features you can explore them here for the online versions you can go here.
How to Learn to use QuickBooks
There are many tutorials online to help you figure out how to get around in QuickBooks. There are also many courses on how to use it for various kinds of businesses. However, my main focus for my trainings and tutorials is to provide you with understanding of your data input in QuickBooks. Having a basic knowledge of accounting to know what goes on behind the scenes in QuickBooks is helpful. But if accounting is not your strong suit getting a one on one QuickBooks Training will help.
For example, It’s easy to enter a bill but you need to make sure that your accounts have been set up correctly and that what you have entered will display correctly on your financials. I have seen the outcome when a user just starts entering data without knowing if their QuickBooks has been set up correctly. The outcome is wrong Financial statements. So it is important to have a bookkeeper or accountant to make sure reports are correct.
Many, including myself, recommend QuickBooks as one of the best entry-level accounting and bookkeeping applications available today. Therefore, if you need help with setup or need extra help in learning the software go schedule an appointment with me.
